MY STORY

It was my obsession from the young age of 10. With such a long-burning passion, you’d think I’d be a coding rockstar upon graduation. But reality? Not so much.  Even as a software professional, code felt like a foreign language. My dissatisfaction wasn’t just with coding – it was the lack of travel opportunities and feeling underpaid. This negativity overshadowed my potential. Then came a sweltering June day in 2007, Chennai Infosys campus. My US lead called. His disappointment crackled down the line, how underperformers like me were jeopardising client relationships. Shame washed over me. It was a turning point. My focus, once external – promotions, travel – slammed inwards. I became the master of my destiny. Owning my work, building networks, diving deep into concepts – these became my new mantras. It wasn’t just about coding anymore, it was about giving my absolute best. This shift in my locus of control, from external to internal, has been a life-changer. It powered me through landing dream jobs in the UK and the US, and even tackled parenting hurdles head-on. It’s a philosophy that’s served me well, both on and off the keyboard.

My friends and coachees describe me as friendly and easily approachable. They say I have a calming presence. They have noticed me to be an active, non
judgemental listener, patient, positive and confident.

Where is your Locus of Control?

Your locus of control is what psychologists call the degree to which you experience what happens to you as something you are in charge of. People with a strong external locus of control believe forces outside their direct control play a key part in their fortunes. For example, one of my friends holds his parents’ upbringing for the person he is today – easily affected by other’s comments or taking a long time to bounce back. People with a strong internal focus tend to believe that success and failure are both down to the individual’s efforts. Coaching with me can help you see the difference in locus of control as a continuum rather than either/or dichotomy. It can help you lead a balanced life with the four elements – Work, Relationships, Self and Community.
