Adopting a coaching mindset to build a better world

Coaching is becoming one of the best methods of taking anyone from where they are today to where they want to be. A coach’s job is to tap into your creativity and resourcefulness through confidential, non judgemental dialogs. Sometimes top level strategies like goal setting or habit change can help.

It used to be on the job training and coaching. Coaching boss, subordinate or peer group.

How coachable is the average person you meet?

Sometimes coachable and coachable with help.

Some people are amenable to coaching and some are not. It is not the degree or skill. Difference is personality disorder

THese are some of the things to watch out for before choosing your coachee:

  1. Not invented here
  2. Externalising
  3. Cynical
  4. Someone else is the problem not me
  5. I know it all, I have done it all

When a person is closed this way, they don’t have the mindset to get coached.

Look for personality and personality types before accepting.

Coaching is not a remedy to illness or a pill. It is like a treadmill. You have to be accepting of feedback and constantly working.

Coaching grows self awareness. That self awareness can lead a person to reflect what a person is doing or not doing. It is not remedial but strategic business investment to help a person to reach his highest potential. WHen an organisation filters on talent. But the filter should be on effort. A person who will put effort to get better and not just talent.

Coachability:

4 factors:

  1. Comfort with coaching
  2. Development orientation
  3. Feedback receptivity
  4. Work life context

Feedback receptivity has to be high. Feedback is the breakfast of champions.

Feedback is not harsh or devastating but is creating a pathway to development. People who are turning deaf don’t know about it for several years.

Whenever somebody is struggling with  gives feedback, thank them.

Ask them for when you saw it. If you don’t agree, give me an example in which context. When you were aggressive or silent. You can judge for yourself if it is true for you.

3 most coaching:

  1. The reflective practice
  2. Ability to regulate one’s own emotion
  3. Prepare for Coaching grows self awareness. That self awareness can lead a person to reflect what a person is doing or not doing. It is not remedial but strategic business investment to help a person to reach his highest potential. WHe
